Gradiant shading in adjacent cells

I'm trying to add gradient color to several adjacent cells. I looked up the instructions and it said to clear the conditional formatting, which I did. Then go to format cells, click Fill and it says I will find the gradient option there. However, the only options I have in Fill are background color, pattern color and pattern style and I can't find any way to make the cells gradient color.
