Gantt Chart Percentage Complete
Hi all,
I have built a Gantt chart for project management purposes at a construction site.
I am curious if it is possible to shade each bar with the percentage of completion that current item is at. At the current moment, I have colored the completed items green but some of the following items are 30%, 50%, to 75% complete and I would like the colors in the bar to represent that.
I have included my graph table as well which includes the percentage complete column, but I am not sure how to integrate that into the graph.
Thanks for your help!!

To shade each bar in your Gantt chart based on the percentage of completion, you can use conditional formatting in Excel. This will help visually represent the progress of each task on the Gantt chart. Here is how you can do it:
- Calculate the End Dates: Make sure you have the necessary data for your Gantt chart, including start dates, end dates, and the percentage completion for each task.
- Create the Gantt Chart: If you haven't already, create your Gantt chart using the start and end dates of the tasks. You can use stacked bar charts or other appropriate chart types.
- Add Conditional Formatting: To shade the bars based on the percentage of completion, follow these steps:
- Select the bars of your Gantt chart. You can do this by clicking on one of the bars to select the whole series.
- Go to the "Home" tab in the Excel ribbon.
- Click on "Conditional Formatting" in the "Styles" group.
- Choose "New Rule."
- In the "New Formatting Rule" dialog, select "Format cells that contain" from the rule type.
- In the "Format cells that contain" section, choose "Cell Value" from the first drop-down, "between" from the second drop-down, and enter the percentage ranges (e.g., 0 and 25, 26 and 50, etc.) that represent the different completion levels.
- Click on the "Format" button to set the shading color for each range.
- In the "Format Cells" dialog, go to the "Fill" tab and choose the color you want to use for the shading. Click "OK" to close the dialog.
- Click "OK" again to apply the conditional formatting rule.
- Repeat for Each Completion Range: Repeat the above steps to add separate conditional formatting rules for each percentage range you want to represent. This will allow you to shade the bars with different colors based on the percentage of completion.
By applying these conditional formatting rules, your Gantt chart bars will be shaded with different colors based on the percentage of completion. This visual representation will help you quickly assess the progress of each task in your construction project. Make sure to choose colors that are easily distinguishable and convey the progress effectively.
