Formula iso result is showing

Can someone tell me why I would see the formula iso the result (the SHOW FORMULA is not ticked).  I did a VLookup, and cannot see the result - only the formyla showing.  Please help.

    It's possible the format of the cell (and maybe the entire column) is set to Text. Select the entire column, go to Data | Text to Columns | Delimited (Clear all boxes) | Format is General - proceed through with Text to Columns. The column won't be split but the cell contents will be re-evaluated.
