Format cells as text using excel that comes with the one drive pkg MS 365 office
In Microsoft 365 Excel, you can format cells as text using the Format Cells dialog box. Here's how you can do it:
- Select the cells that you want to format as text.
- Right-click on the selected cells, and then click on "Format Cells" from the context menu. Alternatively, you can go to the "Home" tab on the ribbon, click on the "Number Format" dropdown arrow in the "Number" group, and select "Format Cells."
- In the "Format Cells" dialog box, go to the "Number" tab.
- In the Category list, select "Text."
- Click "OK" to apply the text format to the selected cells.
Now, any content you enter into those cells will be treated as text, and Excel will not automatically convert numbers or dates into other formats.
If you're still experiencing issues with Excel automatically converting numbers into dates, you can try the following workaround:
- Precede the number with an apostrophe ('), such as '10-1. This tells Excel to treat the entry as text, and it won't convert it into a date.
- Format the cells as text as described above to prevent any future automatic conversions.
By following these steps, you should be able to format cells as text and prevent Excel from automatically converting certain entries into other formats.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there may be a more specific problem with your Excel installation or workbook. In such cases, you may need to give more information. Inform about your Excel version, operating system, storage medium/hard drive, OneDrive, Sharepoint, etc.). If possible, add a file (without sensitive data) and use this file to describe your project step by step, or add photos with the appropriate description. The text was created with the help of AI.

If you're using Excel on a tablet without the ability to right-click, you can still format cells as text using the following method:
Select the cells that you want to format as text by tapping and holding on one of the cells until handles appear, then drag to select the desired range.
Tap on the "Home" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
In the "Number" group, tap on the dropdown arrow next to "Number Format."
Scroll down and tap on "Text" to apply the text format to the selected cells.
Now, any content you enter into those cells will be treated as text, and Excel will not automatically convert numbers or dates into other formats.
By following these steps, you can format cells as text without needing to right-click, allowing you to avoid automatic conversions such as changing "10-1" to "October 1."
