For Insider, When Will Python in Excel & New GROUPBY & PIVOTBY Functions Appear?
- Nov 23, 2023
Steve1330 , you are welcome.
As a comment, Beta is stable enough, serious issues here are very seldom. The main problem is compatibility if you share files with someone else or work in different environments.
Steve1330 how did you update your version because as of now I have the Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2311 Build 16.0.17029.20028) you had. When I click on update it says I'm up to date
Also I checked my Windows Settings and I am in the Beta Channel, but this option doesn't show in the Excel account tab
I am trying to get the Python formula enabled in my laptop, but it doesn't seem to work, what would you recommend? Thank you!
I just had the same problem.
Firstly, Windows Beta Channel (Windows Insider Program) is not the same as Microsoft 365 Insider Program. What you need is to join the Microsoft 365 Insider Program.
Now, normally you would do this via the Excel account tab, as you have tried. Depending on your Office version and/or setting on Windows, this is not always possible, or rather the option is not available. The official way to get this option, via the group-policy editor, is described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployOffice/insider/deploy/group-policy
However, for me this did not work since I did not even have any policy to edit for my Office installation. I don't know why, but I suspect that I cleaned everything when I earlier uninstalled an old Office installation and ran a cleanup of the registry.
Now, to my solution, the brute force option. Just add this reg-value to your registry:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\16.0]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\16.0\common]
"insiderslabbehavior"=dword:00000001
Restart your Excel and the option to join the Microsoft 365 Insider Program should now be visible in the Excel account tab. Remember to choose the "Beta channel" in order to get the latest features. Just remember, as mentioned in other post here, all the functions from the beta channel might not instantly be available.
Hope this helps.
