Filter/Clear Filter Process Causes Blank Rows to Be Added

When I filter, then clear the filters, in Excel (Office 365), hundreds of blank rows get inserted between rows with data. It looked at first as if the newest data had been deleted, but then I scrolled to the bottom and found it. Any advice? Thanks in advance!
