excel
I am inserting a symbol in a cell in excel BUT it does not show as such (the symbol) in the formula bar. My problem is that I can't "import' the specific symbol from the formula bar to my custom format cells to use in formulas etc (a good example of the symbols I am talking about is the Up and Down arrows ▲▼) The symbols show in the excel cell but not in the formula bar - there it shows as q and p.

Johan1949 Have a look at the attached file. It contains a working example of what I think you want to achieve.
- Johan1949Copper ContributorI am inserting the two symbols in an excel cell. From here I battle to copy/transfer these symbols (▲ and ▼) to the custom format cells to insert them in my formulas

Johan1949 Click on the cell with the symbols. Now copy the symbol from within the formula bar and paste it into the custom formatting formula. I just picked an existing format and pasted in the symbols. The one in my example is:
#,##0"▲";-#,##0"▼"
