i'm having trouble where the footer is located to edited it

There are two options:
1) Switch to Page Layout view using the button in the Status bar or on the View tab of the ribbon.
You can then directly add or edit the page header and footer.

2) Click the arrow in the lower right corner of the Page Setup group of the Page Layout tab of the ribbon.
Activate the Header/Footer tab.
