Microsoft is working on this - please add your vote to Visually show which cells are selected even when another application has focus
In the meantime, you might use Jan Karel Pieterse's free add-in Follow Cell Pointer, available from his download page

Copy the file FollowCellPointer.xlam to %appdata%\Microsoft\Addins.
Start Excel.
Select File > Options > Add-ins.
Click Go... near the bottom of the dialog.
Click Browse...
You should see FollowCellPointer.xlam.
Select it and click OK.
