Excel saving slowly can happen due to a large workbook, network connection issues, add-ins, or formulas that need extra processing during saving.
Since the issue disappears when the file is moved to a local drive, the network connection or server location may be the cause. Try:
- Copy the workbook to a local drive and test saving.
- Check network latency and permissions on the shared folder.
- Remove or disable unnecessary add-ins.
- Check for corrupted formulas, hidden data, or excessive formatting.
- Create a copy of the workbook and use Save As to a new file.
- Update Office and check if the issue happens with a new template.
Because only one template has the problem, compare it with the working template to find differences in formulas, connections, or hidden data.
