Excel solver frozen

I have dowloaded a file off of brightspace which has been "loading" for literally 2+ weeks because I've been ignoring the issue lol. Im using Mac, so when I try to close the program using the red button in top left corner, there is a pop up that's titled "Loading excel Add-ins" "Loading (2 of 2): solver.xlam". I had installed excel solver last year. any help to close the program so I can start a new file would be greatly appreciated.

It happens sometimes when opening files from external sources (like Brightspace), and it can get stuck for weeks unless manually interrupted.

Force Quit Excel using Apple menu → Force Quit.

Disable the Solver Add-in in Excel settings.

Reopen Excel, and everything should run normally again.

    Optional Cleanup (Advanced)

If the Solver add-in keeps coming back, delete its reference:

    1. Go to this folder:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Library/Preferences/

    2. Look for a file like com.microsoft.Excel.plist and delete it (this resets Excel preferences — including add-in loading behavior).

    3. Reboot your Mac.
