Excel ran out of resources

Hi I am facing an issue with excel for Mac version 16.98, I am continuously getting message "Excel ran out of resources while attempting to calculate one or more formulas", when I delete the cell and type the formula again it is working and displaying the results, however when I try to close the file I am again getting the same message and the data gets changed to "Cal!" or Spill etc....

Can anyone support to resolve this issue

Regards

Ramsesh

Most probably you have mistakenly written formula, not necessary the one with which you work. For example, if somewhere in the workbook you have =234:23456, Excel with each new recalculation gives "out of resources".

  • Please try to fix by the following:

    1. Simplify or Break Down Formulas
    • Avoid chaining too many functions together.
    • Use helper columns to split logic into smaller steps.
    1. Turn Off Automatic Calculation Temporarily
    • Go to Excel > Preferences > Calculation
    • Set to Manual, then recalculate with Cmd + = when needed
    1. Check for Circular References
    • Excel > Preferences > Error Checking → Enable circular reference warning
    1. Clear Excessive Spill Ranges
    • If you see #SPILL! or Cal!, check if the formula is trying to output into a blocked or oversized range.
    1. Try Excel for Web or Another Mac
    • If the issue is local, Excel Online may handle the file better
    1. Roll Back to an Earlier Version

      Hi Kidd

thanks for your inputs, the file was working good earlier, the issue started when I changed the regional settings.

      1. I set the calculation function to manual, but still the problem persists.
      2. there are no circular references
      3. there is no spill issues now

I am seeing only Cal! issues, when I try to change the formula it is working good, but when I reopen the file I am getting the same error message

can you pls help me with the process how to roll back to earlier version and check.

      Regards

      Ramesh
