excel paste link - keep source formatting
Haytham Amairah
Is there a restriction to what can be pasted as a linked picture. I can do so with one range I am working with, but not using another range. The one that works is actually more complicated (including hidden rows and comlumns), than the one that the "Linked Picture" option does not appear when I right click....
If the dataset is formatted as Table, you cannot copy it and paste it as a linked picture!
This is one of the limitations.

That is helpful. Odd that it works if I only capture a part of the table.
In fact, what I have discovered is that if you create the link with any random range, you can then re-define the linked range to the desired range within the formula window. I use that trick alot to put variable comments into graphs. I am not sure of the behavior if the table range changes, but as long as the table size is static, it seems to work, even if rows or columns are temporarily hidden.- Haytham AmairahJan 08, 2020Silver Contributor
Thank you for this great trick!
You can make it expandable by giving the table a defined name in the Name box, then after you copy part of the table as a linked picture, you replace the picture range with that name.
But you need to exclude the test well header from the defined name.
