Excel or Access? basic advice from which to start from.

Depends on a number of things.
Theoretically this kind of information is better served using a database. But if your business is simple and vulomes are low, maybe a simpler Excel file will do. Another important factor to consider is the use of the application. Will there be just the one user, or are there multiple people using this. Also, do you expect just one type of machine (Windows computer) vs multiple types of machines (browser, iPad, Phone, Laptop).
My guess is that you should be able to find an affordable (on-line or not) PoS software system that only needs configuring and entering your inventory and clients into.

Many thanks, JKPieterse for a speedy reply. I had not considered off the shelf software as I assumed it would not suit my exact needs or would be prohibitively expensive. I shall have a look. Regards. Gareth
