Excel numeric keypad on iPad and Android

We are using the Excel app on an iPad and the keyboard layout does not automatically change to the numeric keypad when selecting a cell formatted as a number or time. Can this be changed somewhere in the settings?

During testing, I found that on the Android app, the keyboard layout changes automatically.

Unless there is already a (hidden) formula in the cell. Then the keyboard layout switches back to alphabetical.

I would expect to get the numeric keypad when selecting these cells because of their cell formatting.

It is possible that updates or changes have occurred since then, so it is a good idea to check for the most recent information and updates related to the Excel app on your specific device and operating system. Here are some general tips that might help with this issue:

    1. Check for Updates:
    • Ensure that you have the latest version of the Excel app installed on your iPad and Android device. App updates can sometimes address such issues.
    1. Keyboard Settings on iPad:
    • On an iPad, the keyboard layout should generally switch automatically to the numeric keypad when you select a cell formatted as a number or time. However, if it's not happening, you can try the following:
      • Make sure your iPad's operating system is up to date.
      • Check the iPad's keyboard settings in the device settings app. Ensure that the "Shortcuts" or "Auto-Correction" feature is not interfering with the keyboard layout.
      • You can also manually switch to the numeric keypad layout by tapping the "123" button on the keyboard when needed.
    1. Keyboard Settings on Android:
    • On Android devices, the keyboard layout should switch automatically when selecting numeric or time-formatted cells. If it is not happening, make sure your device is running the latest Android version.
    • Check your Android device's keyboard settings. There might be an option to adjust keyboard behavior related to numeric input.
    1. Cell Formatting:
    • Ensure that the cells are indeed formatted as numbers or times. Incorrect formatting may cause the keyboard layout not to switch as expected.
    • If there are any hidden formulas or data validation rules in the cells, this could affect the keyboard behavior.

Since software behavior can change with updates, I recommend checking the App Store (for iOS) or the Google Play Store (for Android) for the latest release notes and user reviews to see if other users have reported similar issues or if there have been recent updates addressing this problem.

Keep in mind that specific features and behaviors can vary between different versions of the Excel app and across different operating system versions, so it is essential to stay up to date with the latest information and software updates.
