Excel not saving to desktop

MS Office 365 which I have had for years and update automatically will not let me save Excel spreadsheets to my desktop anymore. Can anyone please give me a clue as to why?

    Hi JuliaDale1945,

experiencing difficulty saving Excel spreadsheets to your desktop can be attributed to various factors. Consider the following solutions:

    1. Use the 'Save As' Option:
Try saving the file with a different name and location using the 'Save As' option. Open the "troubled" Excel workbook, click on File, select Save As, choose the location, give it a new name, and click Save.

Save your workbook - Microsoft Support

    2. Controlled Folder Access: Temporarily disable Controlled Folder Access in Windows Defender Security Center under Virus & threat protection settings. Check if this resolves the issue of saving to specific locations.
Allow an app to access controlled folders - Microsoft Support
Add an exclusion to Windows Security - Microsoft Support

    3. Repair Microsoft Office: If none of the above steps work, consider repairing your Microsoft Office installation.

Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support
