Here are several steps you can try to resolve this issue:

    Step 1: Update Excel

Ensure that your Office 365 is up to date.

    1. Open Excel.
    2. Go to File > Account.
    3. Under Product Information, click Update Options and select Update Now.

Step 2: Check if the Issue is Specific to a Particular Sheet or Workbook

    1. Create a New Workbook:
      • Open Excel and create a new workbook.
      • Try switching to Page Layout view in the new workbook.
      • If it works fine, the issue might be with the original workbook.
    2. Copy Data to a New Workbook:
      • Open the problematic workbook.
      • Copy the data from the problematic sheet to a new workbook.
      • Try switching to Page Layout view in the new workbook.
      • If it works fine, the original workbook might be corrupted.

    Step 3: Disable Add-ins

Add-ins can sometimes cause Excel to become unresponsive.

    1. Press Windows + R, type excel /safe, and press Enter. This opens Excel in safe mode.
    2. Try switching to Page Layout view.
    3. If Excel works fine in safe mode, disable add-ins:
      • Go to File > Options > Add-ins.
      • At the bottom, where it says Manage, select COM Add-ins and click Go.
      • Uncheck all add-ins and click OK.
      • Restart Excel normally and enable each add-in one by one to find the problematic one.

    Step 4: Repair Office

If the problem persists, try repairing your Office installation.

    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Go to Programs and Features.
    3. Select your Office 365 installation and click Change.
    4. Select Quick Repair and follow the prompts. If the issue is not resolved, try Online Repair.

    Step 5: Check Printer Settings

Excel's Page Layout view relies on the printer settings. Ensure that your default printer is correctly set up.

    1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Ensure your default printer is correctly installed.
    3. If possible, try setting a different printer as the default and check if the issue persists.

    Step 6: Clear Conditional Formatting

Sometimes, excessive conditional formatting can cause Excel to become unresponsive.

    1. Open your workbook.
    2. Go to Home > Conditional Formatting > Clear Rules > Clear Rules from Entire Sheet.

Step 7: Increase Excel Memory Limits

You can try increasing the memory limits for Excel by increasing the paging file size in Windows.

    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Go to System and Security > System.
    3. Click Advanced system settings.
    4. Under the Advanced tab, click Settings in the Performance section.
    5. Go to the Advanced tab and click Change under Virtual memory.
    6. Uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.
    7. Select your drive and choose Custom size. Increase the Initial size and Maximum size.

    Step 8: Reinstall Office

If none of the above steps work, consider reinstalling Office.

    1. Uninstall Office from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Reinstall Office 365 from the Office website.

These steps should help you identify and resolve the issue with Excel not responding when switching to Page Layout view. The text and steps were edited with the help of AI.
