If you're experiencing issues opening macro files in Excel 2021, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
- Check macro security settings: Make sure that the macro security settings in Excel are not set to disable all macros. You can adjust the settings by going to the "File" tab, selecting "Options," then navigating to the "Trust Center" and clicking on "Trust Center Settings." From there, choose "Macro Settings" and select the appropriate security level that allows macros to run.
- Enable the Developer tab: The Developer tab provides access to the VBA editor and related functionalities. To enable it, go to the "File" tab, select "Options," then click on "Customize Ribbon." Under the "Customize the Ribbon" section, check the box next to "Developer," and click "OK."
- Check file extensions: Ensure that the macro files have the correct file extension, which should be ".xlsm" for Excel macro-enabled workbooks. If the file extension is incorrect, you can rename the file and change the extension accordingly.
- Repair Office installation: If you have already tried repairing Excel but it removes the VBA file used for coding, you may need to perform a more thorough repair of your Office installation. To do this, go to the "Control Panel" on your computer, select "Programs," then choose "Uninstall a program." Locate Microsoft Office in the list of installed programs, right-click on it, and select "Change" or "Repair" to initiate the repair process.
- Compatibility mode: If you recently upgraded from Microsoft Office 2019 to 2021, there might be compatibility issues with older macro files. Try opening the macro files in compatibility mode by going to the "File" tab, selecting "Open," and choosing the macro file. When prompted, select "Open in compatibility mode."
Remember that the specific user interface and terminology may vary slightly between Windows 10 and Windows 11, but the overall concepts and troubleshooting steps for Excel should still apply.
If none of the above solutions work, please provide more details about the error messages or any other specific issues you're encountering.
- have you tried to open the file using Excel Online
