Excel License Question

Hi.  I tried to use Excel to connect to a SQL server.  I am able to log in and select the table I want to edit/load that data, I get the following error:

"Unexpected Error

Something went wrong.  If the problem continues, please restart Excel."

I am using Microsoft Office 365 Business.  I assume it's a license issue because this data is easily accessible through Power BI and it's accessible through Excel when using Analysis by Dimension from Power BI.  I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong or I just don't have access to this based on my subscription.  If it is subscription based, what subscription level is required and what other services come with it?
