Excel: How to open a shared file on the computer instead of the web

I shared a file with someone else, but they can only get it through the web excel. Anytime they download the file it is just a copy. Its in a one drive folder, but they cant see what I put in the one drive folder. How can they access it through the windows app instead of through the web?
