I am trying to create a search box that will look up my spreadsheet and return only the latest entry when a subject has finished first

- You need to provide a more complete description of your situation if you want help. What's the context here? How are the "subjects"? What is it that they're finishing? Who else? Is the "first" in comparison with other "subjects" or other completions by the same "subject"? And so forth.
And if you've gotten as far as creating a spreadsheet already, with some of the data that would need to be searched to give you your desired result, uploading it would be helpful as well.
