Excel Formula Problem

Did you confirm that the cell is not formatted as text? Right click, select "number format" from the menu, and I think it should bring up a dialog box. If it's text, change it. Then click in formula bar and hit enter to re-enter the formula.
JMB17 Thanks for replying. I only have the online Excel so I don't have the choices under 'Formulas'

JMB17 Yes i checked the formatting and changed it from text to general without success.
It thinks I am referencing an external workbook but i am not Frustrating!!!

I have the same problem. I have tried everything. I too noticed that the format was text, but changing to general, or any number format doesn't do anything.
This started with a reference to another sheet, but even selecting the adjacent cell just shows the formula, not the value.
Any hints?
closing and re-opening still shows the same result 😕

Two variants
- after changing format from text to general you didn't re-enter the formula (Edit and Enter)
- if above doesn't work on ribbon Formulas - > Show formulas could be ON
