Excel fill colour
When I want to fill a row or column with a colour it doesn't show on the screen, so I am never sure whether it has accepted the instruction or not. How can I get the chosen colour to show please?

If you are applying fill color to a row or column in Excel 365, and it's not displaying as expected, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and ensure the chosen color shows correctly:
- Check Zoom Level:
- Sometimes, the zoom level can affect the display of colors in Excel. Zoom in or out using the zoom slider in the bottom-right corner of the Excel window to see if the fill color becomes visible.
- Verify Color Selection:
- Make sure you are selecting a color that is significantly different from the cell's existing background or font color. If the selected color is too similar, it may not be easily distinguishable.
- Check Conditional Formatting:
- If you have conditional formatting rules applied to the cells, they might override the manual fill color. Check for any conditional formatting rules that might be affecting the appearance.
- Adjust Cell Borders:
- Sometimes, cell borders can hide fill colors. Make sure there are no thick borders or cell outlines that might be obscuring the fill color. You can remove cell borders if they are unnecessary.
- Adjust Cell Shading:
- Ensure that the "Shading" option for cells is not set to 0%. If the shading is set to 0%, the cell will not display the fill color.
- Update Graphics Drivers:
- Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause display issues in Excel. Consider updating your graphics drivers to the latest version.
- Try a Different Theme:
- Excel themes can sometimes affect how colors are displayed. Try changing the Excel theme to see if the fill color appears as expected. You can change the theme under "File" > "Options" > "General" > "Office Theme."
- Use Cell Styles:
- Instead of manually applying fill color, you can use cell styles. Cell styles ensure consistent formatting and can be applied easily. You can find cell styles under the "Home" tab in the "Styles" group.
- Check Hardware Acceleration:
- In some cases, enabling or disabling hardware graphics acceleration in Excel options may resolve display issues. You can find this option under "File" > "Options" > "Advanced."
- Test in a New Workbook:
- Create a new, blank Excel workbook and try applying fill colors. If it works in the new workbook, the issue might be related to the specific workbook you were working on.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there might be a more specific problem with your Excel installation or computer configuration.. The text and the steps was created with the help of AI.
