Excel charts: revenue and margins over a time period

Hi all,

I want a chart showing the development in revenue and margins over a period of three yrs. I want the revenue to be marked on the left hand x axis and margins to be marked on the right hand x axis (secondary axis). I can't quite get it to look the way I want. See the attached picture. What I want is for the margins (currently shown as lines across the three companies) to show as lines across each company over the time period. So basically one line across company A, one line across company B and one line across company C.

Appreciate any help!

Best regards,

Kris

  • I think you need to declare the charts with Switch Row/Column to plot against year.  I am also not convinced that there is much to be gained by stacking the column and line presentation within a single chart (see below).  Two adjacent charts may well be clearer.

      Thanks PeterBartholomew1

What I want to show company A, B and C as clustered columns with the yearly revenue over each period like I did in my first post (not sorting them by year as you did). I want to add to my chart three lines (one for each of the companies) that show the margin over the three years. So for company A I want a line above the three columns, showing three data points, starting in 2023 and ending in 2025. And for company B I want another line, starting in 2023 and ending in 2025 for that company, same as for company C. I do not want  the lines to be connected across the companies, as mine are now.

I basically want a dotted line for 2023, 2024 and 2025 to be connected, not a dotted line for 2023 to be connected across the three companies.

Appreciate any help and realise I might not explain so it's easy for you to understand.

      Have a nice day!

      Best regards,

      Kris
