Excel Amature

I'm trying to create a spreadsheet that will help calculate quantities by part name. I'm in the construction industry and while doing "take offs" on a set of blueprints parts are listed repetitiously in different quantities. Is there a way to list parts and quantities randomly in a spreadsheet and have excel recognize the part names and total the quantities in a separate column? For example, a "3-inch pvc wye" may be typed in multiple times with different quantities each time. Can excel recognize "3-inch pvc wye", regardless of the input location, and total the amounts in a separate column?

Yes. You'd use the SUMIF function. Here's a resource that explains it. Come back if you need more help in implementing it.
