Excel 365 ribbon headings

The Excel 365 headings, the ribbon, take more vertical screen space than the previous headings under Excel 2007.   Under Excel 2007, there remained room for 31 spreadsheet rows; Excel 365 only allows space for 29.  Is there a way to slightly compress the headings.  I know I can completely  collapse the ribbon, but that's not what I'd like to do, nor do I just want to reduce the scale of my spreadsheets.
