Excel 2016 Change Source Locks File

Hello Everyone,

We recently transitioned from 2010 to 2016 which has been a complete nightmare... a complete nightmare. I don't know how much I can emphasize how much of a nightmare it's been. I am a power excel user and I've been changing links daily for 10 years and have never experienced this until Excel 2016 (in my opinion the worst Excel).

Excel File A and File B are the same exact file but in different folders, File C Links to File A but now I want it to link to File B...I have all files open, with File C I change source from A to B...it "completes" in a few seconds but then the cursor continues to circle for 5+ minutes....The links are nothing special and not a lot of information. When we were using 2010 it literally took <10 seconds to do the entire process, now it takes 5+ minutes. PLEASE Help!

I have the same issue when I do a control find replace instead of changing links.

Can you perhaps post a typical formula with an external reference?

      Jan,

The formula is simple: cell A1 in Workbook C = A1 in Workbook A/B.

I have an update, and I think I have been able to narrow down what is potentially causing the issues. Yesterday, I was upgraded to 64-bit Excel version, and I was able to use the "control find replace" and change source functions just fine; however, our organization uses software that profiles desktop/computer, and my new computer had not been updated with that software. This morning my desktop was profiled (identically resembles my old PC), and when I tried the same functions, the required 15+ minutes. Also, I found a Citrix 2010 and 2016 Excel versions on my computer and in those instances, I was able to perform the changes source and "control find replace" without any issues.
