Excel 2016 - Can't turn off table autoexpand feature

Just tested this on another computer in our office w/ latest version of Excel 2016 and same thing... checking or unchecking the settings in 'AutoFormat As You Type' in the document Options/Proofing screen has any impact on how tables function... Can someone on the latest version of Excel 2016 test this to confirm??

This option doesn't work on protected sheet (as in you case). If unprotect it when no problems
