We are experiencing the exact same issue.

Could you tell more about the registry key fix?

Edit: I am currently rolling back to the Office July update as the September update seems to have caused the issue,

Disable Office updates ( File > More > Account > Update Options > Disable Updates) and then run this command in an elevated prompt:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX64\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=15.0.5571.1000
