Excel - Value Added Formula

Hi All,

 

I am trying to make a formula to work out value added for alphabetical grades (achieved vs predicted), for example A - B = -1, A-A = 0, B-A = 1.  At the moment I have used 3 cells and IF formulas in 2 to assign numbers to each grade and then a simple subtraction, is there a way i can do this with one formula in one cell?
