This question is for MS Office Word, Excel 2021, 365.
When I password protect a Word, Excel file, I know it requires a password to open, or modify. My question is, does password protecting a file also encrypt it?
If password protecting a file does not also encrypt it, then how do I encrypt it, thank you.

- James_AveryCopper ContributorYes, password protecting a Word or Excel file in MS Office does encrypt the file. The encryption is part of the password protection feature, providing security for both opening and modifying the file. You do not need to take additional steps to encrypt the file separately.
Yes, a Word document or Excel workbook that requires a password to open has been encrypted using that password.
