downloaded worksheet file's formatting changes when saved/ copied to a workbook
- Aug 07, 2025
Hello,
When you merge sheets into a master workbook - especially via VBA or VBS scripts - the destination workbook may use a different theme or color palette than the source files. That causes fill colors and formatting (especially "small squares") to shift or render differently. A similar issue was discussed on the Microsoft forum, where the accepted solution was to align the theme before merging:
- Copy using “Keep Source Formatting” when pasting or
- Set the workbook’s theme to an older version, such as Office 2007–2010, before copying, to preserve consistent colors
Did you consider using Power Query to merge worksheets? It can eliminate most formatting issues, especially those related to themes, palettes, and visual styles. Let me know if you need more information about Power Query.
Best regards,
