Does anyone know how to hide the login name in the upper right of the Excel client?

When recording demos I want to be able to hide the login name. Example above.  Video creation software allows you to mask it but it can become very difficult when the video moves around a lot.

I know I can hide the entire menu/ribbon but I don't want to do that. Also tried changing my Office 365 display name to something else and that doesn't work.

Thanks,

Jim

  • As far as I know, the display name of account is a part of the UI and not able to disable. I can understand it maybe not convenience while video recording. How about adjusting the recording area excluding that part on your video? Hope it helps.

You can temporarily change the displayed username by editing the registry. For Office 2013, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Identity\Identities in RegEdit and edit the key "FriendlyName" to whatever you want.

Thanks for the reply.  This does work for a single Excel session but after closing Excel it is set back to my user name.  Still helpful though!
