Disable Recent Tab Entirely
- Jan 05, 2025
Hi
In Sequoia the setting is shown in this screen shot. This setting may be in other places depending on your version of Mac OS.
Hey Jim,
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I've set it to none.
The first time I've opened Excel, all the recent files list was gone just as I wanted it but after a couple of seconds, they all came back. You've any ideas what might cause this?
You might need to restart your Mac for the apps to know you changed the setting.

Well of course I've tried that too :)
I changed it back to 10, restarted, changed it to none, restarted again.
It first clears out that list but after a couple of seconds they all come back.

This sounds like a genuine bug! The question I don't know the answer to is does the bug belong to Apple or Microsoft? I suggest reporting it to both companies and let them figure it out.
To send a report to Microsoft, in Excel use the Menu Bar and choose Help > Feedback > Report a Problem.Apple has various ways to submit bug reports. This article explains them.
