Cursor mismatch with mouse - Excel- Microsoft 365

I am using Microsoft 365 on Windows 11 Home single edition on a HP ProBook 440 G8 Notebook PC. Quite frequently when I click on a cell on the excel spreadsheet a cell above or below the intended cell gets selected! Thereafter I have to rely on the keyboard arrow keys or shutdown all excel workbooks and restart excel. Shall be thankful for any advice on the same.
