Creating an Access Table from an Excel Worksheet with only one 55 character Column
- Jul 08, 2023
When I moved all of the programs over, they all bombed.
Vba program? how did you move it?
copy the only one .accdb file to flash disk and paste to your Win11 from the flash disk .
Or send email attachment.
You have a VBA program already?
To import the data from your one-column Excel worksheet into an Access table, you can follow these steps:
- Open Microsoft Access and create a new blank database or open an existing database where you want to import the data.
- Go to the "External Data" tab in the Access ribbon.
- Click on the "Excel" button in the "Import & Link" group. This will open the "Get External Data - Excel Spreadsheet" dialog box.
- In the dialog box, navigate to and select your Excel worksheet file that contains the lab test names.
- Choose the option "Append a copy of the records to the table" and click "OK". This will open the "Import Spreadsheet Wizard" dialog box.
- In the "Import Spreadsheet Wizard", select the worksheet that contains the lab test names from the dropdown list.
- Ensure that the "First Row Contains Column Headings" option is checked if your Excel worksheet has a header row. If not, leave it unchecked.
- Click "Next" to proceed to the next step of the wizard.
- In the "Specify Table Copy or Query" step, select the option "Table: New Table" and click "Next".
- In the "Define Field Types" step, Access will automatically detect the data type based on the content in the Excel worksheet column. Make sure the column is recognized as "Text" or "Short Text" with a maximum length of 55 characters. If not, you can manually change the data type to "Text" and set the field length to 55.
- Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the import process.
Access will create a new table with the lab test names from your Excel worksheet. The table will have a single column with the lab test names.
Please note that during the import process, Access may apply default field names like "Field1" to the imported column. You can rename the field in Access by opening the table in Design View and changing the field name to something more meaningful. The text and steps were created with the help of AI.

I am trying to create a new access database, however the option does not show New Database when I open Access.
We have download seven office products from Office 2003 to Office 365. After we download, every one of them keep saying Access 2007, do you know why?
A lot of people thought it was a scam, so I called Bank of America and all of the charges showed Microsoft, so if it is a scam it is a good one.
I am trying to work with Access 2019 and Access 2013. The hospital hired two retired Microsoft employees who were software engineers and they told management to stay away from Office 365.
So in short we have a lot of computers for the smaller rural hospitals who cannot afford upgrades.
I am also pretty new to Access which is also a concern.
Thanks
