Creating a column chart that compares 2 sets of data

I have a worksheet with 2 columns of numbers that I need to compare.  I need each of my horizontal categories to have 2 columns side by side each column representing 1 of the 2 data columns.  Also some of the numbers are negative numbers and it would be great if I could have those columns going down instead of up.
