Connecting sheets that are shared?

Is it possible to share a file that someone is forced to make a copy of and still pull data to a master sheet? I have a data-tracker that I want to share with some students. They will be forced to download a copy of the file to fill in their own data. Is there a way I can still pull data from the new files that are created?

    JEllsworth ,,,

    There are two possibilities,

    1. From Review tab, in the Changes group, click the Share Workbook button.
    2. The Share Workbook dialog box will appear,
    3. Select the Allow changes by more than one user at the same time. This also allows workbook merging check box on the Editing tab.
    4. Optionally, switch to the Advanced tab, then select the desired settings for tracking changes, and click OK.
    5. Save you Excel file to a network location where other people can access it.

    Second is,,

    1. Make copy of Master file, and share over the cloud, ONE Drive or Google Drive.
    2. Collect after are been edited.
    3. Compare files and if required merge them.
