Conditional formatting - advanced

Hello dear Excel Community,

I need to be able to copy the same formula used in a cell in a row 2 that says if there is a value in A2 then B2 cell gets highlighted.

I have to repeat the same structure of formula for the next 200 rows without doing it manually.

So if I use format paint brush and copy this rule to the next row (3) and it will give me the similar formula again that says:

if there is value in A2, then B3 gets highlighted instead of if A3 has value then B3 gets highlighted, and so on.

So for row 4 is the same issue it shows that if there is value in A2, then B4 will be highlighted too instead what I need is if A4 has value that B4 gets highlighted.

I want to be able to do this quicker than duplicate and manually edit 200 rows and create hundreds of rules.

Can somebody help me please with this?

Kind regards.

I assume that you have used absolute references in your conditional formatting rule. Instead, you would need to use mixed references, that only fix the column A, but not the row to.

    Example:

Thanks very much Martin, this was actually the problem, my formulas were based on $A$2 instead of $A2. It is very easy now to do what I wanted now. Have a nice day.
