Colored cell affects pivot table results

In the column of values I used for my pivot table, a cell that was filled with a color, was not counted in my total. There were other cells filled with other colors that were counted; once I removed that one color, it was included in the count. Why did that happen? How do I avoid that error while keeping my colored cells? There was no conditional formating in the column.
