Do you mean whether Iterative Calculation is enabled or not? That's because Iterative Calculation is an application-level setting, not a workbook-level or worksheet-level setting. It is either on for all workbooks, or off for all workbooks.

So if I have a workbook that requires iterative calculation and I normally open it first/alone, it works just fine. If I already have another workbook open that doesn't use iterative calculation and the flag is off then open the one that does require it, the one that does require iterative calculation fails to operate correctly? Does that seem reasonable?
Yes, I know that iterative is currently set as an application level setting but doesn't it make sense that it should be a workbook level setting as each workbook has its own requirements for calculation? It seems like a design flaw in Excel to me.
