Charts locked

Hi, I'm using Office 365.  I have 3 charts in my Excel worksheet and they have suddenly become locked. When I hover over them I see a no-entry or stop sign (black circle on white background with sloping line through it).  If I run my macro to change the charts, it says "Requested shapes are locked for selection."  Does anyone know how to unlock them?
