Change scale of X-axis to 1-month intervals on stacked bar chart

Hi,

I am making a timeline for some projects in Excel using a stacked bar chart, with the project names going down on the y-axis and dates going along the x-axis. I have managed to make the date axis have major intervals of 4 weeks, with 1-week minor intervals, but ideally I'd like the major intervals to be monthly - e.g each line is the 1st of each month.

I have followed guides online to try and do this, which have told me that in the "Format Axis" tab there should be an option to set the units and intervals to months, but for some reason this isn't showing for me.

I will attach a scrubbed version of the excel document for reference.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

In a bar chart, the horizontal axis is the value axis. This is strictly numeric, it does not "know" whether it represents dates or not. Since months have different lengths, it is not possible to set the major unit to 1 month: January has 31 days, February 28 (or 29), etc. The nearest you can get is by setting the major unit to 365/12 = 30.416666, but you'll see discrepancies.
