Cell selection on Freeze panes issue 2023

I can't find any posts about this issue, but I have many sheets where I freeze panes, and that's all according to how I want them, no issues there. But when I am working in the sheet, and clicking on various cells to add or modify the cell content, it automatically selects many other cells in that row or column, and I have to click 4 or more times to get it to just select the cell I'm clicking on. This is a big time sink for me. No, it's not extend tab. No, there's no locked content. No the cells, rows or columns are not merged. Thanks.
