Can't Sort Data

I have always been able to sort data by column and add columns etc but now the sort button does not light up to give me the option to click on it?? I currently use Office 365

    Forty people have looked at your post with out a one providing a reply. The reason: you don't give enough information for anybody to offer even a half-reasonable hypothesis.

     

    At the very least a screen image of what it is you're trying to sort, an image taken at the point where you're expecting it to sort but the button is not "live."  Even better: post a copy of the file on OneDrive or GoogleDrive, with a link here that grants edit access.

      I receive quarterly excel reports from the State showing revenue generated from charitable organizations so I can't really post a copy of the excel sheet....I get these reports as well as others and have noticed recently when I go to the tab showing "Data" that I would then go to the button marked "Sort" and be able to click on it and bring up the dialogue box asking for the different levels to sort by I can't do it. I just tried sorting on several of the spread sheets I tried working with this morning on a different computer (running windows 10) vs on my lap top still running Windows 8.1 and they all worked!! Is it possible that the issue is the latest version of Excel I am subscribed to don't work on Windows 8.1??

        I suppose it's possible, but I think the chances are pretty remote.

         

        I know when I sort some of the tables I have I always highlight the entire table (including headers) before selecting "Sort".... I do that so that it's clear what I'm wanting to sort, especially if (as is sometimes the case) there are other things above or below the range in question.

         

        Again, though, if what I've said isn't helpful, you could help us help you by posting an image or two, if not the actual file. I gave instructions before for how to proceed in that way. You can black out or change names to protect confidentiality.
