The online version of Excel, particularly the one accessible through a web browser (such as on a Chromebook), may have limited features compared to the desktop version of Excel. As of that time, the ability to edit headers and footers directly in the online version might not have been available, so far I know.
Check for updates or changes. Keep in mind that Microsoft continually updates its Office Online suite, and new features or improvements may be introduced.
Here is how you can typically check for headers and footers in the Excel Online version:
- Open your Excel workbook in the online version.
- Navigate to the "Insert" tab on the ribbon.
If you do not see an option for headers and footers there, it is likely that the online version does not support direct editing of headers and footers as of the current version. In such cases, you might need to access a desktop version of Excel for more advanced features.
Remember, Microsoft's online suite evolves, so checking the latest documentation or community discussions will provide the most accurate information. If headers and footers are crucial for your work, you might want to consider alternative solutions or accessing Excel from a device that supports the full desktop version. SergeiBaklan I have the online and then I change to Desktop and still don't see headers or footers. The older online versions seem to let us download the apps to our local..maybe that is a different license now? A simple thing now takes hrs to debug?

Thanks for confirmation, I thought with office 365 we could always download desktop version for more functionality. It seems like downloading documents does offer this in word. I must have a different work liscense because I can download all desktop versions. A challenge to keep up with versions and functionality..especially as we age like old :cheese_wedge:..Cheers!

luu42 Dear, you can find on the right side of your online sheet, there is a button named "Editing" before the share button. Click on it & try to open your file "open in Desktop" on the number 3rd option. you will be able to use header & footer as you want & will be saved in online sheet after closing file.

In Excel for the web (online version), adding or editing headers and footers isn't available. This feature is only in the desktop version of Excel.
Since you use a Chromebook, you can:
- Use Google Sheets: Upload your file to Google Sheets, then go to File → Print → Headers & footers to add them there.
- Use a Desktop: If possible, use a computer with the full version of Excel to add headers and footers. Then you can go back to using the online version.
Unfortunately, Excel online doesn't support this feature yet.
