Autosave makes Excel unresponsive every 2 mins

This is getting much worse. The same lag is now everywhere in desktop apps. MS Word. 36MB file (a lot of pictures) 409 pages. On a corporate laptop. Different license. Different hardware. All our word documents are stored on the Sharepoint. I use desktop MS Word app. The app freezes for like 5-7 seconds every 5-10 minutes. It happens regularly and often. Often enough to make normal work interrupted and inefficient. This started happening in Word just recently. We have used these Word documents for ages. And it was working fine. I checked with a colleague who uses a different laptop - he experiences the same problem.
