autocorrect or autofill
Thanks for the information but I am still confused. When I begin to type an entry in an excel cell, if I have previously typed the same name before, an otion shows in gray format to complete the entry. I want to delete or edit some of the simmilar suggested completions. richard_spear

I understand your question better now. It sounds like you are referring to Excel's "Autocomplete" feature, which suggests completions based on what you've previously typed in a cell. If you want to delete or edit the suggested completions, you can follow these steps:
To delete or edit Autocomplete suggestions in Excel:
- Type a portion of the word into the cell. When you see the grayed-out suggestion you want to remove or edit, use the down arrow key to highlight that suggestion.
- Press the "Delete" key to remove the suggestion. This will remove it from the Autocomplete memory, and it won't appear as a suggestion the next time you type that word.
- To edit a suggestion, simply select it and type your correction over it.
- Excel should now remember the edited or corrected entry for future Autocomplete suggestions.
Keep in mind that Excel's Autocomplete is based on your recent entries in the workbook. It does not have a centralized list of suggestions like Autocorrect. The suggestions are specific to the workbook you are currently working on. If you switch to a new workbook, Excel will generate suggestions based on the entries in that workbook.
If you want to clear all the Autocomplete suggestions in a specific workbook, you can do the following:
- Go to the "File" tab.
- Choose "Options" to open the Excel Options dialog box.
- Select "Advanced" from the left panel.
- Scroll down to the "Editing options" section.
- Uncheck the option that says "Enable AutoComplete for cell values."
- Click "OK" to save your changes.
This will clear all Autocomplete suggestions in the current workbook, but it will not affect suggestions in other workbooks.
