auto fill not working

Im new to excell and am trying to auto fill areas, i followed the video but its not working

i drag the crosshairs to the number of boxes then click the forula but it isnt auto filling

    I believe you clicked on the cell you are copying from and then dragged to the other cells. 

     

    You indicated that you "dragged the crosshairs to the number of boxes then click the formula" 

     

    Can you explain what you meant by this?

     

    In the alternative, you can fill down by selecting the cells and other blank cells below it and then press 

     

    CTRL + D

     

    Same with copying to the right using 

     

    CTRL + R
