Allowing Dat Entry on a Protected Sheet

I want to protect several worksheets and still allow people to enter data in selected cells. For example, I want to protect cells with formulas, but allow users to enter variables. Is this something that can be done?

I tried the "Allow Edits" feature, but after entering the allowable cells, then protected the sheet, I wasn't able to edit or enter data in the allowable cells.

Assistance is appreciated.

Before protecting the worksheet, do the following:

    • Select all cells where users should be able to enter/edit data.
    • Press Ctrl+1 to activate the Format Cells dialog.
    • Activate the Protection tab.
    • Clear the Locked check box.
    • Click OK.

Now protect the sheet, and make sure that you leave the check box 'Select unlocked cells' ticked.
